Colonial, cerioid. Gemmation intracalicinal. Corallites prismatic in outline, generally monocentric, temporarily dicentic to tricentric. Costosepta compact, nonconfluent to subconfluent, radially or bilaterally arranged, granulated laterally. Anastomosis present. Columella styliform to sublamellar. Synapticulae present. Wall parathecal to septothecal. Endothecal dissepiments thin, sparse.
The type material of the genus Actinastraeopsis Sikharulidze, 1977, as originally documented in Sikharulidze (1977, p. 71-73,pl. 6, fig. 2, pl. 7, fig. 2, pl. 8, pl. 9, fig. 1, pl. 10, figs. 1-6), shows cerioid polyp integration as well as polyps that are in sub-fasciculate arrangement, the latter of which results in a pseudo-phaceloid appearance (see picture assigned to T. [Actinastraeopsis] phaceloides [Sikharulidze, 1977]).
